Watch a $200K Bentley Become the “Ultratank”

Some Russian mechanics went full "Mad Max" on the luxury coupe

A brand new Bentley Continental GT will set you back north of $200K, which means most buyers will despair at the slightest scratch or ding.

The wizard mechanics behind popular Russian YouTube channel AcademeG are not most buyers.

First, they acquired the cheapest Continental GT they could find. Then they chopped it up, slapped tank-like tracks on the bottom and christened the mutant luxury coupe the “Ultratank.”

You can watch the Mad Max-ian final product below in a video that has taken the automotive world by storm, garnering almost 5 million views since May 9th:

It’s hard to understand some of what’s going on, as the video only receives a rough English translation via subtitles, so here’s the gist: the original 6.0-liter, twin-turbocharged W12 engine was in bad shape, so it was swapped for Toyota’s 4.3-liter V8; an entirely new platform was created for the vehicle, including the tracks, on which the Bentley body was dropped; and they’re still working out minor issues (braking, keeping the tracks on, etc.). So for now, this is merely a proof of concept.

But if you’re looking for the highlight of the video, head to 9:05. After flooring the Ultratank for a few stretches (the top speed is around 31 MPH), the host hits an incline and — while not quite getting air — manages to toss the front end like a monster truck.

If you want to see more of how this project came to be, and keep abreast of further Ultratank improvements, check out the video below or head over to AcademeG.
