So I want to get my suits custom made, but there’s no one in my area who does it. Any other options you can recommend?
-Bryan, Cheyenne, WY
Take your quest online, good sir. Indochino is a great low-cost option and they do good work, you just have to be diligent with your measurements or have a tailor do it.
Southern outfit Strong Suit is launching a new service where a pretty young lady will take an appointment with you via Skype to help take the guesswork out of getting fitted. And J. Hilburn has a network of guys around the country who do fittings in your home or office, so check if they’re in your area.
Hearing a lot about business clothes made with “tech” fabrics for active commuters and the like. But do any of them actually A) look good and B) work?
-Jonathan, Brooklyn, NY
I wasn’t sold at first, but after some testing, I’ve come around. Ministry of Supply’s Archive dress shirt wicks moisture, stretches in all the right places, and even has tiny, laser-cut perforations for venting — perfect for a hot NYC commute.
Proof makes killer khakis and slacks that straight up repel liquid. Has to be seen to be believed. Same goes for shirts and ties from Vardama, who weave liquid-repelling tech right into their fabrics. Tested a couple at the office and they performed with aplomb.
I just moved to California and I’m looking for some good beach gear. I.e., stuff that will keep me entertained. What are your suggestions?
-Charlie, San Diego, CA
First, grab yourself a Mini-Jambox bluetooth speaker. Great connectivity, way louder than you’d think, totally portable, and I’ve beaten the hell out of mine and it keeps coming back for more.
Second, a canvas game bag set from the Summer Shop: portable checkers and backgammon with handsome wood pieces that pack away neat for your to and fro.
Third, get yourself on the waiting list for a Coolest immediately. It’s one of the most successful Kickstarter campaigns of all time and the official drop is coming later this summer. It’s got every bell and whistle you can think up, from integrated plates to bottle opener to USB charger to a friggin’ battery-powered blender. Oh, and its own Bluetooth speaker should you forget the Jambox. Next level.
Finally, pick up a vape from Juul — made by the folks who make the Pax we’re so fond of and the handiest nicotine puffin’ device we’ve come across. Compact, artfully designed, and available in four tasty flavors. Worked like gangbusters at the yacht party we threw recently, so I figure the beach is the next logical step.
