As we’ve seen with previous offerings from Bentley and Rolls-Royce, the only way to truly enjoy a $400,000 car like a Phantom is to store something really expensive in the boot, er, trunk.
In the case of the Phantom, that expensive something happens to be a $46,000 picnic basket.
Created to commemorate the line’s transition from coupes to limos, the leather-and-wood Rolls-Royce Limited Edition Picnic Hamper is designed to fit perfectly into the sunken trunks of the last 50 conventional Phantoms that will ever be produced.
The hand-carved picnic sets weigh more than 40 pounds and come filled with containers for food, crystal glasses, platinum-accented plates, hand-etched decanters and steel silverware.
Finished in a choice of three color combos that will match an owner’s Phantom, the hampers even have “piano black” picnic tables inside of them that fold out on milled-aluminium hinges.
“The hamper will serve as a true collectors’ piece, marrying Rolls-Royce’s craftsmanship with its customary eye for detail,” the company said in a release. “Every hamper will be sequentially numbered to perfectly match each owner’s Phantom Zenith Collection motor car.”
As Bloomberg points out, if the Phantom can’t do it, the hamper will definitely impress your date.
