Our favorite camp stove company is going solar.

Biolite — maker of off-the-grid essentials for campers and hikers of all stripes — has just launched the SolarHome 620, a fully functional solar kit meant to provide energy and light to your home.

It’s a release that speaks directly to the Brooklyn-based company’s overarching mission: to create access to affordable household energy for the whole planet. Biolite is calling the SolarHome 620 its first “crossover product,” selling in both outdoor recreation and off-grid markets. Currently, the SolarHome system is being used across over 5,000 homes in western Kenya.

Which is not to say the system doesn’t have advantages for the recreational market. The SolarHome 620 offers a solar panel, control box and three hanging lights. The control box also has a USB charge-out and a FM radio system. Best part? It all packs into a kit the size of a shoebox.

That makes the system perfect as a backup power grid, or toolsheds and the like. It can also be used for off-grid living, whether in a cabin or country-traversing adventuremobile.

If you’re looking to jump on the SolarHome 620, you can preorder here for an early 2018 delivery.
