The next big TV sport might also be its simplest.
Remember tag? The trio of football Watt brothers (J.J., T.J. and Derek) certainly do — they’re bringing the childhood game to Fox in 2020.
The new take on the playground classic, currently entitled Ultimate Tag, arrives via Znak & Co, the company run by MasterChef exec producer Natalka Znak. Expect some major tweaks
“I was looking at [Fox’s] acquisition of WWE and some of the sports programming we have and I believe that it sits closely to that audience,” as Rob Wade, President of Alternative Entertainment and Specials for Fox Entertainment, told Deadline. “This is an opportunity for families to sit around and watch that.”
“‘Ultimate Tag’ takes a childhood game to extreme levels, with insane obstacles & incredible athletes,” J.J. Watt tweeted.
Kendall Baker at Axios Sports believes the game will most likely resemble World Chase Tag, a global league of professional competitive tag that more resembles extreme sports shows like American Gladiators and American Ninja Warrior, complete with TV-friendly obstacles.
