To date, James Holzhauer has won 28 Jeopardy games in a row and banked $2,195,557 during his winning streak. While the professional sports gambler still has a ways to go to match show legend Ken Jennings’ 74-game win streak, he’s now only $325,143 behind Jennings in total winnings ($2,520,700).
That means Holzhauer, who won $130,022 on Monday night, could catch Jennings as soon as this week.
During a Tuesday morning appearance on Good Morning America, Jennings said he was “really excited” about the prospect of Holzhauer catching up to him.
“For 15 years I have thought somebody was going to make a run at this record because I always knew it could be done. I was there. I saw it happen,” he said. “What I did not expect was somebody could make a run at the cash record in like a third of the time.”
Jennings also had an interesting answer when questioned about how he would fare against Holzhauer if the two were to face off in front of Alex Trebek.
“The thing is, it’s been 15 years for me,” Jennings said. “You know, we’ll never know how Babe Ruth and Hank Aaron would have played at the same time because they were decades apart.”I think I could hold my own against him, even today, but I would need some breaks. It would be all about who found the ‘Daily Double,’ and usually on Jeopardy I don’t need a lot of breaks.”
