OSU President: Urban Meyer Probe "Will Be Finished When It's Finished"

It’s been almost two weeks since Urban Meyer was placed on paid administrative leave by Ohio State University, but a probe into the embattled football coach’s actions is still ongoing.

And, it might be that way for a bit longer than expected.

Ohio State, which is investigating what, if anything, Meyer knew about domestic assault allegations made against one of his former assistant coaches, started the probe on August 5 and was hoping to conclude it by this Sunday.

According to Ohio State president Michael Drake, Sunday is no longer a hard deadline to wrap up the investigation and that it “will be finished when it’s finished.”

“There is a great deal of interest in this investigation,” Drake said in an interview. “We wanted to make sure we had really good information, and there is time pressure. We wanted to have that information as quickly as possible. The most important thing is to get good information so we can make the right decisions going forward.”

Once the probe is complete and as much information as possible is gathered, Drake and the school’s board of trustees will decide what to do and make a ruling about Meyer’s future at the university.

The Buckeyes play their first game of the 2018 football season on September 1.
