Table Stakes

November: Meat. Cocktails. More meat.

  • 24 November 2014

To keep tabs on every New York restaurant and bar opening is folly. But to keep tabs on the most worthy? Yeoman’s work, and we’re proud to do it. Thus we present Table Stakes, a monthly rundown of the five (or so) must-know spots that have swung wide their doors in the past thirty (or so). Bon appétit.

The best method for combatting cold weather is a juicy, sizzling slab of red meat.

That’s just science.

Happily, Midtown saw the arrival of Mastro’s, the revered Beverly Hills steakhouse where Hollywood deals close over porterhouses and your correspondent once sat adjacent to Jackson Browne.

Meanwhile, downtown, the Bowery was blessed with a palace of côte de bœuf, bone-in filet and pork ribeye with Korean BBQ sauce. You can thank the guys behind Burger & Barrel and El Toro Blanco for that.

Bone marrow lasagna popped up amid nude statues on Park Avenue.

Hell, even the new tiki-themed cocktail bar is dishing out a two-patty behemoth of a burger alongside their jalapeño tequila concoctions.

And lest the meat-averse go committing hari-kari, the chaps from Neta dropped a brand new omakase joint to service your caviar-topped toro needs.

So go on, warm yourself up.

Enjoy the guide.
