Minnesota is called the land of 10,000 lakes. It’s also the stomping ground of one Paul Bunyan. So they’ve got water, and they’ve got wood.
It’s only natural, then, that a team of crafty timbermen have started shaping some of the prettiest wooden paddleboards in all the land.
Shore Boards is the name of said company, and, spoiler alert: their sticks are drop dead freaking gorgeous.
It was started in 2013, when owner Tim Shore decided to carve a wooden paddleboard for his wife. That took him the better part of a year. Once it was ready, he tested it early in the morning on the placid waters of a nearby lake.
If you’ve ever been in the middle of calm water, surrounded by naught but nature, silence and all things serene, then you know its effect; it’ll dispel all of the static in your life. Add to this the fact that paddling while standing is a great core and cardio workout, and you can see why Shore was hooked. He was also immensely proud of his work. So since then, he’s been cranking out as many boards as his two hands can shape.
The good news is that orders have been piling up. The challenge for him is that he needs to invest about $25,000 in extra equipment and supplies to meet the demand in a timely fashion.
And you can help by contributing to his Kickstarter campaign. Donate $1,750 and you’ll be the proud owner of a handmade wooden paddleboard.
Hell, even land-lubbers might want one: these boards are just as handsome on in your house as they are on the water.
