Welcome to InsideHook’s Staff Picks, a compendium of all the things our editors have been digging on recently.
Wood Panel Wall Art by Society6
In March, we included Society6 — where "every purchase pays an artist" — among our picks for the best places online to buy art for your home. Their newest offering is this collection of nine-panel wood prints that range in size from 3' x 3' to 5' x 5' and start at just $150. With hundreds of different artworks available, you won't find a more affordable way to lend some character to a large, empty wall in your home. — Walker Loetscher, Editor in Chief
PLANT Apothecary Bath & Shower Gel
Big-time sweater here. Like, if you see me at any point between May and September, chances are I'm glistening in a slick layer of perspiration, either about to or just having finished a discreet sniff test. But thank bergamot that I'm not alone, and a whole world of good-smelling fixes exist. Current favorites are the body washes from Brooklyn's PLANT Apothecary, with notes of the aforementioned bergamot, plus sandalwood, eucalyptus and peppermint. — Athena Wisotsky, Senior Editor
Blundstone Men's Original 500
If you have any Aussie mates, you've most likely seen them wearing a pair of these, and for good reason. They're great for rainy weather (e.g., the entire past week on the East Coast), sturdy as hell and supremely comfortable once broken in, which should take about a week. They're also equally competent on a rainy hike or a weekend city jaunt. And super easy to keep clean. — Eli London, Director of Partnerships and User Acquisition
Tom Ford T Card Holder
It's simple. It's elegant. It says Tom Ford on it. And best of all, it's 40% off. A no-brainer, even if you're just stashing it away until your current card holder craps out. — Danny Agnew, Creative Director
Board games are my summer downtime go-to. Nothing better than sitting on the porch with a cold brew in one hand and a rune-inlaid longsword for smiting demons in the other. You’ll find that in Gloomhaven, a new strategy game that has garnered more hype than Infinity War from the board game gatekeepers themselves. Frustratingly, it’s only been available to Kickstarter backers, but now you can finally order it on Amazon. — Alex Lauer, Associate Editor
Penfield Polito Shorts
Few others will be sporting this inspired Jacquard feather design around the beach bar (or grocery store), and certainly no one else will be feeling as comfy, thanks to that garment-washed 100% cotton. Are they pricey? Yeah. But the PPW (price per wear) metrics are going to be near zero by mid-July. — Tanner Garrity, Associate Editor
MW50+ Wireless On-Ear + Over-Ear Headphones.
By far the best looking headphones on the market, Master & Dynamic’s just-updated, interchangeable MW50+s are now the world's most comfy and functional cans: you can switch from on-ear to over-ear pad (each built from memory foam wrapped in lambskin) in seconds, thanks to the power of magnets. To boot: the sound's pretty awesome, and you get 16 hours of playback per charge. — Kirk Miller, Managing Editor/Nation Editor
THE BEST THING WE DRANK THIS WEEK
Surprise — it’s Jägermeister. Well, it’s a new, artisanal take on the herbal liquor called Manifest, which you should see in your local bar any moment now (unlike its green forebear, this one’s in a clear bottle). You’ll get notes of anise and dried fruit (natch), but also surprising hints of vanilla and oak — part of the new barrel-aging process that actually veers this slightly toward a whiskey profile (again, slightly). Serve neat, slightly chilled or in something like this pictured Old Fashioned (which was damn good and tasted more like a complex Sazerac). It's deceptively smooth.
