IBM Supercomputer Reveals What Democrats and Republicans Are Really Thinking

It ain't pretty

Not happy about the current political climate?

According to artificial intelligence, that’s the only thing we can all agree on.

Utilizing stats from LeftRight.news, a just-launched “mood dashboard for the political internet” powered by IBM’s artificial intelligence engine Watson, Republicans and Democrats see the world in wildly different ways … save for one trait.

LeftRight aggregates news from politically biased news sources (from Mother Jones to Breitbart), runs ‘em through a tone analyzer to assign the stories a “tone indication” (anger, disgust, fear, joy, sadness) and showcases them, natch, from left to right.

Since the tool works in real time, it’s hard to draw longterm conclusions, but this is what we found at 2pm EST on July 27:

  • Republicans are twice as angry as Democrats, and almost twice as fearful
  • Democrats are almost twice as disgusted as Republicans, and over twice as sad
  • No one is feeling a lot of joy
