The people who live in these United States might have all been created equal. The States themselves, however, were decidedly not.
You’ve got Alaska with its natural beauty. Texas with its natural resources. Delaware with its natural, uh, Delawareness. Then there’s Montana, where residents have a 1 in 674,600 chance of being killed by an animal, at least according to charts that Man vs. Beast put together using data from the CDC.
Given that A) deer are the biggest national killers annually (at 120 deaths per year) and B) 1 in 58 Montanans are projected to hit a deer this year, it’s safe to say residents of the Treasure State should watch out for Bambi.
So who else should be on lookout? And what should they be looking out for?
If you live in West Virginia (2nd deadliest state for animal-caused mortalities), it’s wasps, bees and hornets. If you’re in South Dakota (3rd most), it’s large mammals. And if you live in Massachusetts, it’s basically nothing (as in: you’ve got a 1 in 8,185,535 chance of being killed by an animal).
