Style is a journey, not a destination. In other words: it’s ever-evolving, and with each season comes a chance to step outside your comfort zone and broaden your sartorial horizons with something new and fresh. This is especially true in spring, a season typically associated with renewal, and one in which bright colors and interesting fabrications abound in the world of menswear.

We recently linked up with our friends at Neiman Marcus as well as famed musician Trombone Shorty to show off four looks you should have your eye on this season — when it comes to trying new things and dressing with a little bit of flair, let one of The Big Easy’s most celebrated and stylish troubadours be your guide.

Look One

One of the great shames of menswear is that most guys think they can’t pull off jeans in any color but the standard blue. In reality, denim is a great place for experimentation, especially during springtime, when bright colors abound. A traditional snap-front denim shirt makes for a great neutral anchor, and if you really want to swing for the sartorial bleachers with an eye-popping pair of kicks and/or a bit of colorful headwear? More power to you.

Look Two

Similar to denim, a lightweight blazer is another menswear staple that ratchets up in impact several notches the moment you choose a left-of-center color. Case in point: Emporio Armani’s wine-tinted masterpiece, which is guaranteed to turn some heads whether you’re donning it over a shirt and tie or dressed slightly down with a sweater and a lighter trouser. Any way you slice it, a handsome timepiece is a must.

Look Three

The key to an effective monochromatic ensemble is to mix it up with layers, fabrications and little details. Looks largely straightforward from a little ways off, but once folks get close they’ll notice the elements that make your fit sing — in this case the cargo pockets and quarter zip on the nylon vest, deftly layered over a knit crewneck with a bit of sleeve detailing. Slim cargos down low tie it all together, and when you’re wearing all black, it never hurts to top it all off with a stylin’ pair of shades.

Look Four

Nothing beats a knit polo as the weather begins to warm up — it’s just slightly more refined than its traditional piqué cousin and looks great with denim, dress trousers and shorts alike. Also pairs exceedingly well with a lightweight blazer like seersucker or linen as a more casual alternative to your typical button-up. And once again, a handsome pair of sunnies never hurt.
