Ex-Patriot Danny Amendola: Belichick Is Like a High School Principal
Miami Dolphin Amendola has opinions about his old boss.
He didn’t call him an a**hole like he did back in April, but former New England Patriot Danny Amendola did call his old coach something else in a new interview: a principal.
While speaking on the Comeback Szn podcast, Amendola outlined the differences between playing for Belichick in New England and suiting up with the Dolphins for his new coach Adam Gase in Miami.
“Coach Gase is one of the guys, one of the boys, and you want to fight hard for your boys,” Amendola said. “Back in New England, it’s almost like you’ve got a principal, the principal’s office and s**t like that.”
Amendola’s larger point was Gase treats his players like they are his equals. Belichick, for better or for worse, is not known for being that relatable.
In Gase, Amendola sees a peer. “Any time you get around a coach like that, a coach you can relate to, a coach that will grind with the guys, you want to play hard for him,” he said.
That’s all well and good, but Gase’s hands-off style certainly doesn’t work for everyone – most notably former offensive line coach Chris Foerster.
