A former NBA player has been accused of sexually assaulting a teacher at the Arizona high school where he coaches basketball, The Arizona Republic reports.
Mike Bibby, who is married with children, has been accused of grabbing a teacher at Shadow Mountain High School by the waist, pulling her into his car, and rubbing his genitals on her in February 2017.
The teacher reported the alleged incident the school’s resource officer earlier this month and filed for a restraining order against Bibby, which has been granted.
The Phoenix Police Department is investigating Bibby and the Paradise Valley School District has also launched an internal investigation into the allegations.
“I can say with pretty much certainty this alleged incident didn’t happen and that will be shown down the road,” Bibby’s attorney, Donald Harris, told the Arizona Republic. “Michael Bibby did not participate in a sexual assault of any way, shape or form that was alleged by this lady two years ago.”
Bibby played at Shadow Mountain in 1996 before attending the University of Arizona and being drafted in the NBA. The 40-year-old played for six teams during his 14-year NBA career, most notably with the Sacramento Kings.
He retired from the NBA in 2012 and has been the head basketball coach at Shadow Mountain for six years, winning five state titles during his tenure.
