ESPN Keeping Alex Rodriguez in "Sunday Night Baseball" Lineup in 2021

With his bid to be an owner of the Mets over and done with (perhaps a good thing), Alex Rodriguez will return to Sunday Night Baseball on ESPN for the 2021 season.

Joining the former New York Yankees slugger on the broadcast will be play-by-play announcer Matt Vasgersian and on-field reporter Buster Olney.

According to the New York Post, Rodriguez signed a one-year extension, which will “allow ESPN and him to figure out their long-term plans after the network’s contract with MLB is announced.” Vasgersian also signed a one-year extension with ESPN.

This is the second straight season Rodriguez, Vasgersian and Olney will work together as a trio, and their fourth season together overall.

Though it will be on a Thursday, Rodriguez, Vasgersian and Olney will call MLB’s Opening Night telecast on April 1 when the New York Mets visit the Washington Nationals. Sunday Night Baseball will debut on April 4 when the Los Angeles Angels host the Chicago White Sox.

A 14-time MLB All-Star, three-time American League MVP and confirmed PED user, Rodriguez made his regular season ESPN broadcast debut on Opening Night in 2018.

In related news, Rodriguez has been accused of racketeering and civil theft related to a joint real estate venture that launched almost two decades ago with Constantine Scurtis, the younger brother of his ex-wife Cynthia.

The racketeering and civil theft accusations come via a 59-count complaint filed in a Florida court earlier this month by Scurtis, according to The Wrap.

“Mr. Rodriguez will face a jury on August 2, 2021, to answer claims that he and his co-conspirators engaged in a pattern of racketeering and embezzlement, gravely damaging a legitimate and successful family real estate business that Constantine Scurtis built through hard work and savvy investment decisions, as laid out in the complaint,” said Scurtis’s attorney Katherine Eskovitz.

Scurtis previously filed a $50 million lawsuit against Rodriguez in July.
