Good news: You might someday get to attend events with other people out in public again. Bad news: You might have to wear a cyborgian contraption that looks an awful lot like a spacesuit from a movie about astronauts who embark on a mission to attend a rave on the moon.

Production Club, a design studio in Los Angeles, has designed a prototype for a protective suit designed to keep concert-goers safe in a post-lockdown society. Called Micrashell, the “virus-shielded” suit resembles a colorful offshoot of a hazmat suit, featuring an air-tight top suit and helmet with an air filtration and breathing system.

“Specifically designed to satisfy the needs of nightlife, live events and entertainment industries,” according to Production Club’s website, Micrashell also boasts a variety of features designed to accommodate safe social interaction without the social distance. The suit includes a wireless voice communication system that allows the wearer to filter who can speak to them and adjust the volume of individual speakers and/or noise sources (so you can, for example, turn down the music so you can better hear your friend, or turn down your annoying friend so you can enjoy the music in peace).

The Micrashell prototype also includes a “supply system” that allows wearers to  drink and even vape from within the suit. Simply plug your canister of choice into the suit and enjoy. As the website points out, this pre-made drink system also has the added benefits of cutting back or even “fully eliminating” long lines at the bar, as well as “remov[ing] the possibility of being roofied, as the drink remains enclosed inside of a custom canister and not exposed to external agents once the user starts drinking.” Oh, and you’ll also be able to charge your phone with the suit, so you’ll never again have to ask a bartender if they have a charger you can use.

So in addition to presenting a solution to the massive problem currently decimating society, Micrashell also took it upon itself to resolve some of the more minor inconveniences that have long plagued nightlife enthusiasts. Stay safe from coronavirus, roofies, and charge your phone with your own outfit? Neat — as long as you can get past the deeply dystopian vibe of this waking post-apocalyptic nightmare.
