Fashion Designer Kate Spade Found Dead in Apparent Suicide

Clothing and handbag icon was discovered in her Manhattan apartment on Tuesday morning.

Fashion designer Kate Spade was found dead on Tuesday morning by her housekeeping staff, the Associated Press is reporting. Police sources say the 55-year-old left a note before hanging herself in her Upper East Side apartment.

The Kate Spade company was purchased in a $2.4 billion deal by Coach last year. There are more than 140 Kate Spade retail shops around the country and 175 internationally.

According to the National Institute of Mental Health, suicide was the tenth-leading cause of death in the United States in 2016, claiming 45,00 lives.
