Right on the heels of the premiere of his new podcast with Barack Obama, there’s more good news for Bruce Springsteen: his DWI and reckless driving charges stemming from a November incident in New Jersey have been dropped.
As Vulture reports, Springsteen pleaded guilty to consuming alcohol in a closed area during a Zoom-based proceeding in New Jersey Federal Court. “I had two small shots of tequila,” he admitted during the proceeding. Prosecutors asked for his other charges — driving while intoxicated and reckless driving — to be dismissed, and Judge Anthony Mautone agreed to dismiss them.
For pleading guilty to consuming alcohol in a closed area, the musician will be fined $500. Mautone reportedly asked Springsteen during the Wednesday proceeding how long it would take him to pay the fine (a routine question, no doubt, but one that seems laughable when you consider how much money the Boss has raked in over the years). “I think I can pay that immediately, your Honor,” Springsteen replied.
Springsteen was arrested on November 14 in the Gateway National Recreation Area at Sandy Hook after a park ranger spotted him taking a shot while sitting on his motorcycle. The officer allegedly asked him if he was planning on driving, and according to the arrest paperwork, “He confirmed that he was going to drive out of the park.”
