These days, as we’re all stuck at home indefinitely in coronavirus quarantine, we’ve all got plenty of time to kill. Fortunately, there’s a new, aptly named Jerry Seinfeld special coming next month to help us cope: 23 Hours to Kill will reportedly hit Netflix on May 5.
The hour-long stand-up special was recorded at New York’s Beacon Theatre, where the Seinfeld star had a residency before the COVID-19 outbreak forced venues across the country to close their doors. Its title is a reference not to the fact that we all suddenly have a lot of free time on our hands, but rather to a line of Seinfeld’s about how stand-up comics spend one hour a day onstage and the rest of the day waiting for that one hour.
23 Hours to Kill will be Seinfeld’s second special for the streaming service, following Jerry Before Seinfeld. Prior to that 2017 release, his last stand-up special was 1999’s I’m Telling You For the Last Time on HBO.
“The special features a spectacular arrival to the Beacon Theatre in New York City, and showcases Seinfeld’s sharp angles on everyday life, uncovering comedy in the commonplace,” a press release about 23 Hours to Kill reads.
Seinfeld also is reportedly going to release a new book, his first in 25 years, for Simon & Schuster in October.
