Kathy Griffin thought that her career was over after she made headlines for a photoshoot stunt that showed her holding a bloodied mannequin’s head made to look like President Trump.
“I was on a no-fly list and under federal investigation for conspiring to kill the president,” the comedian said to The Hollywood Reporter. “I had no idea how the U.S. tour would go. At some points, I thought my career here was over.”
But Griffin has returned stateside in an extension of her Laugh Your Head Off world tour and seems to be doing fine—her stop at New York’s Carnegie Hall is just one of several sold-out shows. Griffin credits the unwavering support of her “un-shockable gays” and Star Wars actor Mark Hamill with her return. Hamill showed interest in attending one of Griffin’s shows after the two had a handful of friendly exchanges. Hamill’s public support brought Griffin a new group of fans.
“Hamill randomly started tweeting me really supportive things one day,” she told THR. “I’ve never had the freaking Star Wars nerds. Now I have a whole new fanbase, which is awesome. So thanks, Mark Hamill. They better buy tickets!”
