Josh Brolin does not seek out the spotlight and he doesn’t allow time for public victory laps. The 50-year-old actor is someone who wants to make sure that every role he takes is successful enough that he can feed his family and continue to work. But in 2018, the big Summer of Josh Brolin is already underway. He is the common denominator in two of the biggest blockbusters already out this season: he starred as Thanos, the featured villain in Marvel’s Avengers: Infinity War; and as Cable, the vengeance-seeking dadbot from the future in Deadpool 2. And then of course, he is in the action thriller Sicario: Day of the Soldado, which comes out June 29. In that, he plays a tough-as-nails, seen-it-all military operative on a mission.
Now Brolin is left figuring out how to handle the kind of superstar success that he never expected, or at least, that he had learned to stop desiring. After a number of tumultous years, he’s finally gotten his life in order. He is five years sober and has been married since 2016. He has found interesting roles with directors and co-stars that excite him. And he has excised a lot of demons along the way. So will the Summer of Josh Brolin upset that finally-achieved peace, asks the New York Times?
