A Deadwood movie is officially coming, and it may be released as soon as spring 2019. HBO announced movie version of its gritty Western series — which aired for three seasons before coming to an abrupt end— will begin production in October.
According to Maxim, Dan Minahan, who regularly directs episodes for Game of Thrones, will direct.
There have been reports of a movie since Deadwood ended nearly a decade ago, but nothing ever came through. HBO president Casey Bloys said that it has been “a logistical nightmare getting it together.” There has been no casting announcement, but Maxim expects Timothy Olyphant, Ian McShane and Molly Parker to return.
Fans already seem excited, according to social media.

If you could use some VERY good news, and I know you can, @HBO just greenlit a “Deadwood” movie; I’ll believe it when I hear the first f-bomb in the dulcet tones of Ian McShane.
