Sign of the Climbs
A gargantuan new rock gym opens in LIC
With the riverfront-running days of summer receding, we’ll all soon be sent scurrying, Under Armour’d tail between our legs, to our indoor exercise hovels.
Weights, treadmill, repeat. Weights, treadmill, repeat.
This cathedral of ascension is no joke – Cliffs’ dizzying geometric array of climbing walls covers thirty thousand feet (for comparison’s sake: Stevie Wonder’s former 12-bedroom New Jersey mansion has the same amount of floor space).
The summits here: nearly 50 feet high.
Servicing this giant climbable Picasso: a staggering 125 rope stations, with routes for everyone from first-timers to seasoned wall monkeys (check the video of intrepid wall-scalers).
Lower “bouldering” walls above padded floors are available for rope-free practice, as well as a full fitness center to work on conditioning.
All gear is provided. Experts are standing by.
Cabin fever, meet climbing fever.
