Jeff Goldblum, America’s go-to movie math wiz, just nabbed a jazz album deal with Decca Records, the near-90-year-old recording label under the Universal Music Group umbrella.
While Goldblum’s reluctant hero roles might be long behind him (though he’s reprised his Jurassic Park and Independence Day characters in recent years), the 65-year-old is finally earning proper due for his considerable skill on the keys. Decca reportedly rushed to sign him after seeing his performance with Gregory Porter on The Graham Norton Show late last year.
Goldblum has actually been performing for years with his group The Mildred Snitzer Orchestra and regularly hosts events at the Rockwell Table and Stage in L.A., though this will be his first studio album.
That makes it one heck of a week, musically, for the heroes who disabled the Harvesters’ Mothership and promptly lit up a couple cigars in the Nevada desert. Will Smith dropped a video a few days ago, hyping his imminent return to the rap game.
And all in time for July 4th.
