There has been a rising rate of young Chinese people failing to meet fitness tests required to join the army. This high rejection rate has created concerns that there are not enough young people in good enough physical condition to fill the ranks of the Chinese army, reports the Evening Standard

The state media, the People’s Liberation Army Daily, proclaimed that the rising numbers are because the youth are “too fat,” emphasized by a poor diet, and “masturbate too much,” which leads to lead to abnormally large testicular veins.

Authorities also attribute blame to the constant use of smartphones and drinking water with a high mineral count, reports the Standard. The number of additives in junk food, sodas and other fizzy drinks were also to blame.

In one city, 56.9 percent of potential recruits were rejected after they failed the fitness tests and it is reported that one in was “simply deemed too fat.”

The report also said that eight percent of male candidates suffered from enlarged testicular veins, from “sitting too long on computer games, excessive masturbation and too little physical exercise.”

Plus, excessive use of electronic gadgets was blamed for 46 percent of the recruits being rejected because they failed the vision test.
