The Jets-Jamal Adams saga has come to an end. After a seven-month long contract dispute, and a trade request last month, New York agreed on a trade to send their disgruntled safety to the Seattle Seahawks, in a deal that will net the Jets two first-round picks.

The full deal will see New York send Adams and a 2022 fourth-round pick, in exchange for safety Bradley McDougald, first-round picks in both 2021 and 2022, and a 2021 third-round pick. It’s quite a haul for a safety that had made it clear that he wanted to leave as soon as possible.

Jets general manager Joe Douglas released a statement via the team’s Twitter page, saying that though they wanted to keep Adams, this was an offer that the team could not ignore:

For his part, and despite his public feud with the Jets over the last few months, Adams tweeted out his gratitude to New York and Jets fans after the trade was announced:

For Seattle, it’s a big bounty to give up for a safety, but if there’s a head coach in the NFL that can get the most out of a secondary, it’s Pete Carroll. Seattle’s Legion of Boom defensive back group from last decade are legendary, and Carroll will likely hope that he can turn Adams into another Hall of Famer safety, a la Earl Thomas.

That being said, Adams is more of a Kam Chancellor strong-safety type, working best closer to the line of scrimmage than as a free safety. Is that enough to justify the price they paid for Adams? Only time will tell, but for now, the Jets will likely be the happier team with regards to the trade.
