A four-year-old boy was dangling from a balcony in Paris and things looked hopeless when Mamoudou Gassama, a migrant from Mali, deftly climbed up four balconies and pulled the child to safety. Gassama is being called “Spider-Man of the 18th,” referring to the arrondissement of Paris where the event happened, according to the New York Times. On Monday, Gassama met with President Emmanuel Macron and was told that he will be given the requisite documentation to live legally in France.
“I told him that in recognition of his heroic act he would have his papers in order as quickly as possible,” Mr. Macron said in a statement on Facebook after meeting with Mr. Gassama at the Élysée Palace in Paris, according to the Times.
France has very tight immigration rules. Last year, only five people were granted residency papers for “exceptional talent” or “services rendered to the community,” according to the French Interior Ministry.
