In 2017, a Los Angeles Times investigation documented allegations of sexual harassment and sexual misconduct against director and producer Brett Ratner. 6 women, including Olivia Munn and Natasha Henstridge, shared their experiences of Ratner’s actions. The article abounds with horrific details, including some shudder-worthy comments that Ratner made years before.
Ratner faced professional consequences as a result of the article: Warner Bros. cited it when they opted not to renew a co-financing deal with his production company the following year. Since then, Ratner has been relatively quiet — which isn’t terribly surprising. Evidently, he seems to have decided that enough time has passed for him to make a comeback, which he plans to do by directing a Milli Vanilli biopic. Which has, apparently, been in the works for years.
The news of an attempted Brett Ratner comeback has left many frustrated, and the organization Time’s Up — dedicated to ending sexual harassment — addressed this news in a recent statement. Deadline reports that the organization’s president and CEO, Tina Tchen, released a statement highly critical of Ratner.
“Not only did Ratner never acknowledge or apologize for the harm he caused, but he also filed lawsuits in an attempt to silence the voices of survivors who came forward — a tactic right out of the predator’s playbook,” Tchen said in the statement. “You don’t get to go away for a couple years and then resurface and act like nothing happened. We have not — and will not — forget.”
As of this writing, there’s been no response from Ratner.
