Tony Sachs

A lifelong New Yorker, Tony got his first job working at a record store at age 14, and a decade later opened his own store (mostly CDs — it was the '90s) in Manhattan. On the side, he wrote liner notes for greatest-hits albums by everyone from Liza Minnelli to '80s new-wavers The Fixx, and amassed a nice collection of vintage bar books. When the Internet killed music retail, Tony combined his passions for booze and writing and, in 2007, became the first drinks writer for the nascent Huffington Post. Since then, he's written for Robb Report, Forbes, Alcohol Professor, Whisky Advocate, Serious Eats, and Esquire, among other publications.

Tony has been a judge for several spirits competitions. He wrote three entries (out of a couple thousand) in the Oxford Companion To Spirits & Cocktails, and is an inaugural inductee in the Order of the Writ, an organization formed by the Kentucky Distillers Association dedicated to the furtherance of Kentucky bourbon. He's usually wearing the badge on his jacket lapel. He lives in New York City with his wife, daughter, cat, and way too many bottles of liquor.
