Trader Joe’s Just Introduced Bottled Cocktails

After stumbling with hard seltzers, the supermarket is doubling down with two whiskey-based classics

While a staple in some countries, ready to drink (RTD) cocktails have been slow to take off in the United States until recently. Even then, most of that exponential growth has come from hard seltzers, although other canned and bottled drinks have made waves.

Now Trader Joe’s is getting (back) in on pre-mixed cocktails. The store’s online blog Dig In recently profiled new bottled takes on the Old Fashioned and Whiskey Sour, both available in 750ml bottles for $16.99.

They apparently arrive from a “small, craft distiller,” although — as per the usual TJ protocol — said distiller isn’t identified.

While the grocer has had past success (in cost and taste) with their other mystery-sourced spirits, it stumbled this year with a line of hard seltzers called Shell House that were almost immediately pulled due to poor quality.

The new whiskey cocktails seem to be limited-edition offerings (“while we can keep it in stock”) and only available in TJ stores and states where wine is sold and liquor sales are allowed. In a slightly worrisome note, the store almost immediately issued a (funny) disclaimer after their new product announcement:
