“Yacht designer” isn’t something you see on a lot of resumes or business cards, but it is a calling, and right now Kurt Strand is revolutionizing it. Known for his unorthodox, intelligent yacht designs, Strand’s latest concept is the futuristic-looking Strand Craft 40′ JLS.

Beyond its sci-fi aesthetics, the Strand Craft’s design hinges on its ability to land or take off from almost any location. The yacht has a Jet Lift System that allows it to fully hover 12 vertical feet, as well as tiltable water turbines. It would be possible to lift this thing off the beach, right into the water, which previous generations of yacht designers would have laughed off as impossible.

Even better, the Strand Craft doesn’t jettison comfort or engine power to achieve convenience. This yacht is maneuverable and shock absorbent (an important detail for those prone to sea sickness), and seats up to 10 passengers, plus two crew members, in an air-conditioned cabin. Best of all, the yacht’s two Mercury 1550Hp engines + 2,600Hp units can reach up to 60 knots.

Granted, this yacht design is just a tender concept now, but it’s an awesome idea from a guy who’s full of them. Click here to see more of his designs.
