Some artists working today are capable of groundbreaking, challenging work in their chosen discipline and, in the process, make the very act of creation into something gripping. And then there’s Donald Glover, whose talents as a writer, actor and musician would each be enough to make him wildly successful at any one of them. Instead, Glover combines a multifaceted approach to art with an impressive restlessness, and it’s led to one of the most fascinating careers imaginable.
The first 2 seasons of Glover’s television series Atlanta were critical and commercial successes, while also boosting the careers of his costars Lakeith Stanfield, Zazie Beetz and Brian Tyree Henry. It’s been well over 2 years since the second season first aired, leading many to wonder when more would be produced. Earlier this year came the news that Atlanta‘s third season was likely to begin production early next year — and that it would be shot concurrently with the show’s fourth.
This week, Glover took to Twitter to offer some tantalizing clues about what viewers might expect when the series returns. Stereogum reports that the news came in the midst of a number of messages about work done by his brother Stephen and director Angela Barnes Gomes in the lead-up to the election.
If most television creators made such a statement, it could come off as hyperbolic. For Glover, though, it sounds very plausible — and should build anticipation among many Atlanta viewers until the series returns.
