For all those who love lying out to get that perfect tan but worry about sun damage and skin cancers, science may have some very good news.

A paper in the journal Cell Reports reports scientists have identified a molecule that darkens skin… without exposure to the sun’s UV radiation.

While this breakthrough is so far limited to tests on skin cells in the lab and not on humans in the tanning parlor, theoretically it could create melanin without the sun scalding your skin.

If the results can be matched on human subjects down the road it can significantly lower the risks of cancer in the tanning process.
