Lady Gaga is already generating Oscar buzz following the premiere of A Star Is Born at the Venice Film Festival, and she will grace the cover of the October issue of Vogue. As the stunningly well received movie approaches its October 5 arrival in American movie theaters, Lady Gaga spoke to Vogue about her extraordinary chemistry with Bradley Cooper, and the organic origins of her casting in A Star Is Born.

The story of Lady Gaga and Cooper’s meeting is as romantic as the famous plot of A Star Is Born. Cooper saw Lady Gaga sing ‘La Vie En Rose’ at a benefit and, and as Cooper tells it, “I was just… levitating. It shot like a diamond through my brain.” The following day, Cooper drove to Lady Gaga’s Malibu estate, where the harmonizing continued. “The second that I saw him,” Lady Gaga told Vogue, “I was like, Have I known you my whole life? It was an instant connection, instant understanding of one another.”

During that first meeting, the pair shared a duet on the folk song “Midnight Special.” The video Cooper shot on his phone of their first time singing together became an integral part of his sales pitch to Warner Bros, an argument for why he and Gaga could play romantic leads.
