When Will We See an NBA Team in Mexico City?

An expansion team in a third NBA country seems almost inevitable.

Given the wild popularity and financial success of the modern NBA, expansion may be on the horizon. SB Nation’s NBA newsletter broke down the reasons why the NBA will likely become the first major American sports league to install itself in Mexico, a possibility first reported by Marc Stein at the New York Times. For the association, a team in Mexico City could be a tremendous windfall. The NBA would be the first American league to capitalize on the advertising and broadcasting money in North America’s biggest city. And don’t worry, Seattle fans, if the NBA expands to Mexico City, Commissioner Adam Silver will need a 32nd team to keep numbers even.
