“Sunday Night Football” viewers will be able to get a fresh look at the gridiron during broadcasts this season thanks to a new camera NBC will mount on the bottom of its SkyCam during games.

According to Variety, the new C360 camera will have the ability to provide zoom-in shots of specific players, bird’s-eye views of plays along the sidelines and views of players on the line of scrimmage. Able to shoot in 8K and record in a 180-degree immersive field of view, the camera has previously been deployed in NBC’s NASCAR broadcasts.

Due to its ability to shoot in extremely high resolution, the camera will be useful to help viewers at home see if a player’s feet remained inbounds or if a ball was being bobbled during a catch if possession becomes an issue.

Thanks to the camera, the audience “will get intimate views of what players do and how they do it,” said SNF executive producer Fred Gaudelli. “You’re able to now really scan the entire field, but do it in an intimate way.”

The camera, along with a new opening segment featuring Carrie Underwood and user-generated content from fans, will make its debut on September 10 when NBC televises the NFL Kickoff Game.

“As a secondary camera on SkyCam, we anticipate capturing a fresh perspective of the game over the trenches,” said C360 Technologies co-founder Evan Wimer.
