Former New York Mets pitcher and current SNY broadcaster Ron Darling announced on Monday that he’s been diagnosed with thyroid cancer.
“After the removal of the mass on my chest along with further tests, I have been diagnosed with thyroid cancer,” 58-year-old Darling said in a statement, according to ESPN. “My doctors have said they are optimistic that the cancer is treatable and that I would be back on air talking baseball in the next month or so. I would also like to take this opportunity to thank everybody for their continued support.”
As Darling alluded to, he had a mass removed from his chest last month that took him out of the SNY booth on a temporary leave of absence.
A member of the 1986 World Series Champion Mets team, Darling played for the Amazins from 1983 to 1991.
