As Anthony Davis’ 2018 season takes a turn for the historic, Bill Simmons compares him to some of the all-time greats in a new column on The Ringer. Since Davis’ star teammate Boogie Cousins went down for the season with an achilles injury, Davis has averaged 33 points and 13 rebounds, including several games with more than 40 points and 10 rebounds. According to Simmons, Davis’ MVP campaign puts him in two historical conversations: greatest power forward of all-time and best first-overall picks of the last 25 years. Although he’s yet to assemble Tim Duncan’s Hall of Fame resume, Simmons argues that Davis’ game-to-game potential is the highest of any four he’s ever seen. As for the signature top picks of the past quarter-century, Davis has joined the ranks of LeBron and Duncan. And Davis is yet to celebrate his 25th birthday.
