Lyft and chill?

Doesn’t quite have the same ring to it, but the transportation company just announced a Netflix-like All-Access Plan, a subscription service that locks in a set rate for rides every month.

Now, unlike Netflix, this isn’t quite all-you-can-binge: you’ll get 30 rides (up to $15 each) if you pay $299 for the month … so about one per day. Any ride over the 30th is also 5% off.

The plan here? Besides using Lyft more, it’s about making car ownership optional, says the company. As they note:  “Americans who use the All-Access Plan for all of their personal car needs can save up to 59%* per month compared to owning a car.”

As well, the All-Access Plan is part of a “land grab” strategy, with the idea of changing customer behavior and prompting new habits and loyalties, says Robbie Kellman Baxter, author of The Membership Economy. The service was previously in beta but will be available to all U.S. citizens by week’s end. It appears to be part of a trend, with rideshare companies across the board expanding their offerings to meet commuter needs, be it partnering with public transportation, incorporating electric scooter rentals or offering you a free/discounted ride to the polls on Election Day.

And if you don’t binge ride but do want to save money, we suggest price-comparison app Bellhop, which incorporates all of your ridesharing apps into a single, streamlined interface.
