It’s the best look at de-aged De Niro yet

When we got a teaser trailer for The Irishman, Martin Scorsese’s upcoming Netflix film and potential magnum opus, it was all about the de-ageing technology. The film stars 76-year-old Robert De Niro, but it spans decades, so expensive visual effects were used to “youthify” him. At the end of the teaser, we got a first real look at the results.

On Wednesday, two days before the movie’s premiere at the New York Film Festival, Netflix released the first full-length trailer. Not only does it offer a better look at the (perhaps final?) career-defining performances of the three stars De Niro, Joe Pesci and Al Pacino (who plays Jimmy Hoffa), it’s actually … pretty funny? The trailer starts with Ray Romano speaking and prominently features other-side characters played by Harvey Keitel, Anna Paquin and Jesse Plemons.

If you watch closely, you’ll get a look at De Niro’s character Frank “The Irishman” Sheeran going from the prime of his life as a 20-something soldier in World War II to an 80-something white-haired hitman at a funeral.

Unfortunately, after this weekend’s premiere, the rest of us still have a month to wait until we can get a chance to take in all 209 minutes. The Irishman is set for a theatrical release on November 1st and will be available to stream on Netflix starting on November 27th.
