Musician, businessman and Gen. Z icon Jimmy Buffett, perhaps best known for turning a hit song from 1977 into the multi-million dollar Margaritaville empire, has sold his home in Palm Beach, Florida, for $6.9 million.
Buffett and his wife, Jane, purchased the three-bedroom home in 2011 for $4.95 million, according to Mansion Global. The purchase marked their second Palm Beach property, and the couple added a third in 2013, snapping up the home across the street from their first Palm Beach residence for $1.3 million, Forbes reported.
The 4,783 square foot property the Buffetts purchased back in 2011 was listed for $7.645 million in early October, and marked sold on November 17, according to listing records. The “island contemporary” home, which the most recent sales listing describes as “an ultra-chic custom-built home of exquisite architecture” featuring “soaring ceilings and mahogany framed glass doors” providing pool views from every room, reportedly sold to a Warren B. Kanders and his wife, Allison Kanders, who have a property in Greenwich, Connecticut.
According to the Palm Beach Daily News, the new owner of Buffett’s former home also owns the parent company of Safariland, a Jacksonville-based manufacturer of products used by law enforcement, military, fire-rescue and EMS personnel. Back in June, the company announced it would sell off two of its subsidiaries that make more controversial “crowd-control” items, including tear gas, munitions and batons. Kanders’ other business interests include investing in the health care, hospitality and restaurant industries, among others.
The luxury property also includes a guest suite above the two-car garage and deeded beach access.
Like similarly ritzy communities in the Hamptons, Palm Beach has seen an increasing demand for single-family homes amid the pandemic. According to Mansion Global, the county registered 1,818 sales of single-family homes in October, marking a 32.8 percent increase from last year.
