People who have large amounts of bitcoin are known as whales. These whales, about 1,000 people, are starting to worry investors. They can send prices plummeting easily, just by selling even a portion of their holdings. The sales are more probably now that cryptocurrency is up nearly twelvefold from the beginning of the year. The 1,000 people own about 40 percent of bitcoin. Whales can also coordinate their moves or preview them to a select few. Many of the whales know each other and could band together to tank or prop up the market.
