So either Billy McFarland’s launched a new venture from prison, or a German electric motorcycle company is actually making bikes worth $40K.
That’s right. Novus, based out of Brunswick, Germany, is selling e-hogs at a pricepoint usually reserved for Audis and BMWs. Are they worth it?
Hmm. The design on these things is definitely inspired. It meshes the look of a decaled, X Games dirt bike with the sleek, quick lines of an urban moped. The specs aren’t too bad either. It weighs only 85-lbs, thanks to a carbon-fiber chassis, and it can crank up to a respectable 60-MPH. It pairs with a smart phone, too.
But then the head-scratching begins. The bike can only travel 60 miles off a charge, there’s no mirrors, the headlight looks like it’s pointed straight at the ground … and it costs forty-thousand-freaking-dollars! What this means in other, gentler terms, is the Novus is no urban commuter godsend. The ideal e-motorcycle would definitely be this light, but it would sell for under $10K. Under $5K, if possible.
