YOUR GOOD GUY TO KNOW
Riley Rea, Furniture Designer

Ace furniture designer Rea started out crafting his pieces from reclaimed materials in a DTLA warehouse and hawking them on Craigslist. Today, he and partner Alex Segal’s Croft House showroom on La Brea is a go-to destination for the aesthetically inclined, whether they’re looking for a drop-dead dining table of Douglas fir and industrial steel or just some good old-fashioned decor inspiration.

Owing its origins to the marinière, or French naval sailor’s uniform, the iconic Breton was originally done in navy and white and boasted exactly 21 stripes, each connoting one of Napoleon’s victories. Fitting that its original intent was to help an overboard sailor stand out from the waves, as today’s versions — done in a variety of different hues — still turn heads.

IF I’M NOT AT HOME OR WORK, I CAN PROBABLY BE FOUND AT . . .

TIPS ON ELEVATING MY PAD?

Put your money into what you use. Don’t splurge on fancy dining chairs if your couch sucks! Think of furnishing a home like putting an outfit together. If you’re a jeans and T-shirt type, stick with something that feels cozy and casual; don’t feel like you need to get the purple tufted sofa to make a ‘statement.’ And most importantly: do what makes you feel good in your space. It’s your space, and it should make you happy. I have a lime green leather bed — it makes no sense, and I love it.
