After months upon months of anxiously waiting through bitter weather and dreary days, it’s finally here. No, not spring; we’re talking about the Todd Snyder x L.L. Bean “Maine-Ah” collection, the object of our obsession since its announcement earlier this year.
Excitement surrounding the Spring/Summer 2022 installation of Todd and The Bean’s partnership is warranted on the merit of past accolades alone; previous collections, like last season’s Upta capsule, have been sartorial slam dunks, featuring a bevy of functionally-sounding, stylish gear that looks as good on the runway as it does at the campsite.
By the looks of it, the “Maine-Ah” collection, a collision of the Pine Tree State’s rugged demands and Todd Snyder’s downtown sensibilities, should be a home run in its own right. Drawing inspiration from classic 1980s L.L. Bean silhouettes and logos, the capsule is splattered with bright spring pastels — yellow, sage, salmon, khaki camo and amber gold dominate the color palette — and pocketed with archival hits like the Anorak and Hiking Short, fully updated with recycled and organic materials.
The mish-mash of fashion-forward layers and functional outdoor gear isn’t a coincidence: the eponymous designer himself acknowledges feeling inspired by the duality of apparel that the likes of L.L. Bean provides. “I was thinking about the warm-weather styles that a guy would wear for a beach hike during the day and then to relax by a campfire at night,” Snyder said about the “Maine-Ah” collection.
