18 miles long, 10,000 feet high, 3,000 cyclists. Those are the key stats for those who journey to Alpe d’Huez, France for the Megavalanche, the longest downhill bike race in the world. With its starting line up in the Alps, competitors are treated to remarkable views and a good amount of risk as they deal with terrain that can be both steep and rocky. Despite the danger, the appeal is clear: watching them race you can see why for a mountain biker this is the ride of a lifetime.
