Every year, coaches lose their jobs at the wind down of the NFL season. Sometimes the decisions seem uncalled for — coaches who maybe just needed a little more time or were doing fine but owners decided the team needed to go “in a new direction” — but other times, coaches are fired because they were failing, and they know it. This year, SB Nation counts a stunning 12 potential NFL head coaching jobs. Thomas George lists who he thinks will stay and who will go. In terms of who’s out, George lists (among others): Bruce Arians, from the Arizona Cardinals; John Fox, from the Chicago Bears; Jim Caldwell, from the Detroit Lions, Dirk Koetter, from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers; and Chuck Pagano, from the Indianapolis Colts. Coaches who are staying include: Vance Joseph; from the Denver Broncos; Bill O’Brien; from the Houston Texans; Todd Bowles, from the New York Jets; and Mike Mularkey, from the Tennessee Titans .
