Two Women Accuse NFL Running Back Derrius Guice of Rape

After being released earlier this month by the Washington Football Team in the wake of being arrested on domestic violence charges, free-agent running back Derrius Guice has been accused of rape by two women.

The former Louisiana State University students say Guice raped them months apart in 2016, when the 23-year-old was a rising star freshman on the LSU football team, according to USA Today.

Though the women say they reported what had happened to LSU employees, including at least two coaches, an athletics administrator and a nurse, it appears the school did not investigate their claims.

“School officials at the time didn’t believe the women and provided questionable explanations as to why their alleged assaults wouldn’t be investigated,” according to USA Today. “The women say no one from the university ever interviewed them or potential witnesses about the allegations.”

Guice’s attorney Peter D. Greenspun denied the rape allegations against his client in a statement.

“At no time were allegations of physical or sexual assault brought against Derrius during his years as a student-athlete at LSU,” Greenspun said. “To bring up such assertions only after the Virginia charges were initiated certainly calls into question the credibility, nature and timing of what is being alleged years later. Such speculation and innuendo should not be the basis for Derrius to be required to make any comment at all. But he wants to be absolutely clear. The allegations in this story are just that and have no basis in fact.”

As a result of his arrest earlier this month, Guice is facing one felony charge of strangulation, as well as three counts of assault and battery and one of destruction of property.

A second-round pick in 2018, Guice has not been able to stay healthy in two NFL seasons and averaged 5.8 yards per carry on just 42 rushing attempts last year.
