81-Year-Old Great-Grandmother Performs Wing-Walking Stunt

Gloria Lonyon achieved one of her major life goals by strapping herself to the roof of a biplane for a death-defying “wing-walking” stunt above the RFC Rendcomb Airfield.

Lonyon, a great-grandmother to five, never got to try the stunt in her youth—wing walking wasn’t something women did “in her day”—but decided that, at age 81, she’d waited long enough. Thanks to Aerosuperbatics, who bill themselves as the “world’s only formation wing-walking team”, she got to live out one of her childhood dreams.

“It was different and absolutely amazing,” Gloria said afterward, admitting that she “did struggle a little bit getting up on the wing,” but had no trouble beyond that and would repeat the stunt “in a heartbeat.”
